SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 09: Under the Chairmanship of MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, a meeting of the Committee on Environment was today held to discuss the issues of environment and rural development.
During the meeting the MLA sought the status of implementation of Swach Bharat Abhiyaan Scheme, in different districts of the state, from the concerned officials.
He said that the work should be expedited to reach the target of building toilet blocks particularly in rural areas.
The meeting was informed about the construction of toilets blocks is going on in full swing and by 2019 state will be open defecation free.
Tarigami stressed that environment is directly affected by the rural activities hence rural sanitation is a major scheme.
He opined that people are still facing a lot of problems mostly in far flung areas so steps should be taken to work in coordination at these place so that the hygiene is taken care of.
Tarigami urged to employ block development officers, to implement the scheme, in every district.
Later it was stressed that suggestions and recommendation given by the members of the committee should be implemented properly.
The meeting was attended by Nirmal Sharma, Commissioner/ Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Director Rural Development Department, Gazanfar Ali, Director Ecology and Remote Sensing, Om Prakash, Managing Director JKSRTC, Mir Afroz and various other officials.
