BANDIPORA, OCT 15: The Department of Education today organized a function in Bandipora in which all-terrain mountain bicycles were provided to 30 meritorious students of class 10th from 2016 annual regular batch of the district.
The students who were provided the bicycles live at a distance of 2.5 or more kilometers from their existing educational institutions.
Director School Education Kashmir, Dr G N Itoo, and District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Sajad Hussain, handed over the bicycles to the students on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Itoo said the Education Department is committed to promote and develop merit of education in government-run schools and encourage the meritorious students.
He said some 1400 all terrain mountain bicycles costing Rs. 2 crore are being distributed among meritorious 10th standard students in all 12 districts of Kashmir division. He added while half of these have already been distributed among the students, the remaining half will be be distributed in coming months.
The Director thanked the local MLA for his efforts and interest in development of education sector in the district.
DDC Bandipora while speaking on the occasion said the bicycles will prove very helpful as a means of transport for the students. He called on the Education Department to also provided mountain bicycles to students from Gurez and Sumbal sub-divisions.
Director Academics, JK BOSE, Dr. Farooq Pir, Chief Education Officer, Deputy CEO, Principals, ZEOs besides teachers, students and parents were present on the occasion.
