‘Have identified them’

Srinagar, October 12: Unidentified gunmen today looted a Jammu and Kashmir bank in Sangam area of Anantnag district.

Reports reaching news agency GNS said that the gunmen barged into JK Bank branch Marhama in Sangam area today afternoon and decamped with over 5 lakh rupees on gun point. The gunmen managed to escape successfully from the spot.

Soon after the incident, government forces including army and police’s SOG arrived at the branch and questioned eyewitnesses and bank staff. The forces also cordoned off the area and launched searches but no one was arrested when reports last came in.

Meanwhile, police today blamed militant for the bank loot and said they have identified the accused. A police official said: “Today militants barged into J&K Bank branch Marhama and looted the bank. In this connection a case FIR number 171/2017 under section 398, 454, 427 RPC, 7/25 A. Act was registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation was started.”

During preliminary investigation, said the police official, “it came to fore that two militants identified as Rasik Nabi Bhat alias Owais of Nowdal (Kirman Mohalla) and Salia Mohammad Akhoon alias Rehaan of Arampora Gurikadal Medoora Tral, of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit are involved in the robbery”. “Further investigation of the case is going on,” he said.
