Says any attempt to denigrade glorious Taj Mahal is unfortunate
Srinagar, Oct 17: Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader, Dr Karan Singh Tuesday expressed shock over the remarks of UP legislator regarding the world famous Taj Mahal.
In a statement issued to KNS, Singh said that “I am shocked beyond belief at the remarks of UP legislator regarding the Taj.”
“As India’s first Tourism Minister for six years, member of the UNESCO executive board for eight years and an inveterate traveller around the world, I have no hesitation in saying that the Taj Mahal is most beautiful building in the world,” he said.
“It is our premier destination for foreign tourists, and as much part of our proud cultural heritage as the grade Brihadeshwara temple in Thanguvur, the unique artistic efflorescence of largely Budhist artists in Ajanta/Ellora, the Lovely Jain temple in Ranakpur and, for that matter, the recently built Bahai temple in Delhi,” he said.
He said that “in fact the pluralistic nature of our cultural heritage is something of which we should be rightly proud, and any attempt to denigrade the glorious Taj Mahal is unfortunate and unacceptable.” (KNS)
