Mahrajpora Sopore residents protest against Municipal Corporation

‘Nobody pays heed to our sufferings’

Srinagar, Oct 10: Inhabitants of Mahraj Pora Sopore Tuesday staged protest against the Municipal Corporation for failing to fulfill the genuine demands of locals.
The residents including men and women assembled at Srinagar’s Press Enclave and chanted slogans in favour of their demands and against MC officials.
Abdul Ahad Malla, one among the residents told KNS that the corporation made a list of almost 2700 families public whom they allotted huts but unfortunately only 205 famlies were given the huts so far.
“Only those have been allotted the huts who provided hefty amount to the corporation officials while the deserving families were ignored,” he said, adding that they are fighting for their demands from the year 2005.
Malla said that they went from pillar to post in this regard but unfortunately nothing has been done. “We met the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) as well as the other higher officials but nothing has been done in this regard,” he said.
He said that the government had earlier promised that the poor families in Mahrajpora will be provided huts and following a decade, the huts have been given to other influential persons. (KNS)
