Anantnag, Oct 20: The Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir who was scheduled to address people at Tral today was arrested near Sangam in South Kashmir.
Mirwaiz South had initially not disclosed his programme to escape police attention. As soon as their vehicle reached Sangam Bridge, the Police tried to stop us, but the driver managed to give a slip to Police, they chased us and gave a message to Police in Chechkoot where three vehicles of Police blocked our way and took Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir into custody along with his associates, Waheed Ahmed Khan and Bilal Ahmed Mir.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir who was scheduled to lead a pro Freedom rally post Friday prayers and visit the house of Burhan wani and Sabzar Ahmed has been lodged in the Awantipora Police Station.
Mirwaiz was also visiting Tral in connection with the organization “South Kashmir preachers and Clerics Association” that has been formed recently to uphold the unity among various schools of thought and protect the rights of Muslims in Jammu Kashmir. Mirwaiz will hold public meeting throughout Southern Kashmir in this regard on the following days. Mirwaiz Yasir in a meeting with preachers of Southern Kashmir on 18 August had said, “We will unite the people on a common minimum program.”
Today the arrest of Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir proves that the state is disallowing religious and Political space to the Mirwaiz of South Kashmir, “Despite the fact that the Police always try their best to arrest Mirwaiz Yasir, he manages to give slip to the Police and reaches the place where he has to address people, but unfortunately today, he took a straight root, considering the time, and it was unfortunate, he was arrested,” the spokesman said.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir has said that the unity among Kashmir public will soon happen and the clerics will work very hard to see that the unity becomes an achievable goal. Mirwaiz Yasir has demanded the release of Sarjan Barkati and other Political prisoners and asked the state to come beyond mere rhetoric and political vendetta.
