Police doubles cash up reward for credible information

Srinagar, Oct 01: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir Police doubled up the cash reward for credible information to nab the people behind mysterious braid incidents, the fresh incidents were reported in South and central Kashmir since last night, creating panic among the residents.
The two fresh incidents of mysterious braid chopping were reported in Chewdara village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district and in Saimoh village of Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Sources said that in the wee hours of this morning, the braid of a woman was chopped off at Chewdara village in Budgam district.
The incident occurred when she was alone at her home.
Local sources informed that the family of a woman was busy in the paddy filed in the wee hours of this morning during which the neighbours after visiting their house found her braid unconscious with a chopped braid as well.
The other braid chopping incident was reported in Saimoh village of Tral where a young girl became victim of the mysterious braid chopping, which is ongoing in the Valley from past over 15 days.
The young girl according to the locals went outside her home to fetch drinking water last evening but she was found unconscious on way.
“The braid of the girl was also chopped off,” they added.
Over one dozen incidents of mysterious braid chopping took place in different areas of Kashmir, which has created panic among the people.
On Saturday, the reports said that two non-locals were arrested for questioning after the braid chopping rumours in Hadipora, Rafiabad area of north Kashmir.
However, there was no official confirmation in this regard.
The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had also directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to nab the culprits involved in mysterious braid chopping incidents.
Police had earlier announced Rs 3 lakh reward to the people who will help in tracing the culprits.
On Sunday, the Jammu and Kashmir police doubled up the cash reward for credible information to nab people behind braid incidents.
Earlier, the police set up a helpline so that “people could inform and seek assistance with regard to any braid cutting incident.”
Reports quoting an official said that cash reward of six lakh rupees would be given to those with credible information on braid chopping.
“General public is requested to call on the helpline numbers in case of any suspicious movement. The person who will give credible information and assist in nabbing any anti-social element found in such incidents will be rewarded rupees 3 lac by IG Kashmir. The particulars of that person will be kept secret,” officials said.
All district SSPs have also been directed to utilize all the resources and men under their command and intensify the joint patrolling with the people of their respective jurisdictions to nab the culprits.
The mysterious braid chopping incidents have sparked protests at several places in the past few days with people taking to streets amid anti-administrative slogans, demanding immediate arrest of involved culprits. (KNS)
