‘Govt pushing us towards starvation’
Srinagar, Oct 28: Quarry holders Saturday staged a protest against the government for banning stone quarrying activities in Athwajan and Pantha Chowk here.
The quarry holders assembled on the roads carrying banners reading ‘Revoke ban on stone quarrying activities’.
The protesters raised slogans in favour of justice and demanded authorities to revoke the ban at the earliest.
They said that the government on Nov 24 last year issued a ban on the stone quarrying activities and didn’t care about livelihood of the quarry holders.
The protesters said that the government is pushing them towards starvation. “We are being forced to face hardships due to the government’s ban imposed illegally on the stone quarrying activities. This ban should be revoked at the earliest for the well being of the quarry holders,” they said.
“The government didn’t even bother to see what happened to the quarry holders after the imposition of ban. There should have been a reason behind banning the work here. The government must have been provided proper reasons for banning our work but they failed to do so,” they added.
The protesters later appealed the government to look into the sufferings of quarry holders and revoke the ban at the earliest so the people affiliated with the work could feel a sigh of relief. (KNS)
