Srinagar, Nov 22: An army soldier was killed in a brief standoff with militants near Line of Control in Keran sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir on Wednesday.

Official sources told news agency GNS that army soldiers of 9 SIKH Li were patrolling near Chunkan Post in Keran sector and they came under barrage of fire from militants at about 1:45 pm. The army men also retaliated and in the exchange of fire, one soldier Sandeep Singh of 9 Sikh LI sustained grievous injuries.

He was shifted to Military hospital Drugmulla where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sources say there could be more injuries to the soldiers. Meanwhile, additional reinforcements of army’s Para troopers have been rushed to the firing spot and massive searches are underway. (GNS)
