PULWAMA, NOV 18: Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) today organized a function to promote empowerment of girls and reinforce gender equality here at Govt Central Boys High School Pulwama.
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar was the chief guest in the programme which was organized under the banner of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” programme.
Speaking on the occasion DDC said that despite having some girls who are really high achievers in various fields, yet the reality still remains that most of the girls are still deprived of their basic rights like equal access to education, and health. The DDC said depriving girls of their basic rights results in keeping them economically backward and makes them vulnerable to various forms of abuses.
The DDC said to make various initiatives taken by the Government successful the line departments have to work in coordination and as a team. He added that heath, education, rural department have to play an immense role in making this programme a grand success. He said that sex determination of the fetus is a major social evil and all those involved in such activities should be punished and directed the health officials to strictly implement PC&PNDT Act in the district in letter and spirit.
DDC emphasized the need to create awareness among masses with regard to educating a girl child. He exhorted upon the significance of the programme and said that a woman should not be deprived of their basic rights including the right to education. He said stressed upon the parents to understand their role in ensuring that their girl child gets proper upbringing, education and all facilities for their overall development and emancipation. He urged upon them to take optimum benefit of schemes envisaging empowerment of girls for a flourished and prosperous society.
On the occasion, various teachers and meritorious students were felicitated for their exemplary performance.
