Srinagar, Nov 1: The Quarry holders who have been barred by government from doing their work at Athwajan, Alfatha and Pantachowk Wednesday thanked Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Inspector General of Police and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for giving them a patient hearing and assuring them that they will not be deprived of their livelihood.

“IGP Mr Munir Khan gave us a patient hearing and on his request, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir assured us that our issue will be resolved immediately,” Mushtaq Ahmed, president United Quarry Association told news agency CNS.

He said on the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mr Syed Abid Rashid asked ADC to submit a report about quarry operations. “DC Srinagar assured us that our issue will be resolved by Thursday evening. We are hopeful and thankful to all the officers for understanding our point of view,” he said and added that thousands of people are associated with quarry operations.

The quarry holders have been demanding they should be either provided a proper and suitable quarry belt or be compensated. (CNS)
