BUDGAM, NOV 18: A day-long camp on the ‘Women Rights’ under the banner “Beti Bachao Beti Padao” was today held here at a Community Hall in Khansahab.
The camp was organized by the District Legal Service Authority Budgam, which was attended by senior lawyers and other members of Bar Association Budgam, Asha workers, Aganwadi workers and scores of employees from different government departments.
Speakers on the occasion expressed concern over the decreasing gender ratio in the State as recorded by the Census department.
The speakers stressed on the mass awareness of women rights and empowering of the women folk by providing them with necessary support, particularly for education at par with the boys for the better and progressive society.
Chairman, District Legal Service Authority Budgam Rajeev Gupta, who presided over the function, lamented the decreasing girl sex ratio which he termed as “violation of the natural system.”
Gupta said that from 2001 census to 2011 census the female sex ratio has decreased to 918 from 927. “There are apprehensions for further fall in girl child population by next census for which we all are responsible. Such disparity is a sheer violation of the natural system,” he said.
He said that it is important to that girl child is also provided quality education all other facilities to make a progressive and developed society. He added that every citizen must contribute to the gender equality and empowerment of the women by respecting women rights.
Stressing on proper upbringing of a girl child, speakers asserted on end to gender bias and ill-treatment towards the girl child. They impressed upon the equal participation of women in every field and demanded an end to sex determination tests as a main reason for the female feticide.
Chairman, Tehsil, Legal Service Authority Budgam, Javed Geelani, Member Secretary LSA Tabassum Qadir Parray, ASP Budgam Majid, SDM Khansahab, Samar Naik and Deputy CMO Budgam, Dr Tehmeena Bukhari and BMO Khansahab Dr Shameema Yasin also attended the function.
