Anantnag, Nov 09: A delegation of patients today met Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) at Anantnag. The delegation raised many health related issues and problems faced by patients in Maternal and Child Health(MCH) Hospital, Anantnag and demanded posting of a Radiologist or qualified sonologist in the said hospital as there is none posted in the said hospital.
They also informed that routine Ultrasonography(USG) of pregnant ladies are done by X-ray technicians on daily basis, and hence putting the life of pregnant ladies and newborns to utmost risk.
President DAK, Dr Suhail Naik stressed that USG is an essential tool for early detection of maternal, fetal and placental complications. “As the reporting is not done by qualified professionals it can lead to incorrect reporting which can thus become cause of frequent unwanted medical termination of pregnancies, preterm deliveries, undue caesarean sections, hysterectomies , and unnecessary referrals to Lal Ded(LD)hospital” he said.
He further said that MCH, Anantnag is a largest catering District hospital for Gynaecology and Obstetrics related problems in South Kashmir and also acts as main referral hospital for about 15 lac population of the district .He further elaborated that not only from the nearby areas but patients from far off places like Banihal and Ramban are also referred to MCH Anantnag for further management, therefore non availability of radiologist at MCH Anantnag is proving detrimental for maternal and child health care.
“It is pertinent to mention here that District Anantnag has only two Radiologists posts, one posted at District Hospital(DH) Anantnag and other at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Dooru and its an utter ignominy that MCH Anantnag has been left at the mercy of X-Ray technicians” he further said.
DAK demands immediate posting of a radiologist or sonologist in MCH hospital, Anantnag so that justice is served and patients don’t suffer further.
