Notorious Drug Peddler of Baramulla detained under PSA

Police Drug Deaddiction Centre Baramulla imparting treatment to persons suffering from substance abuse


Baramulla, Nov 03: One incorrigible and notorious drug peddler namely Abdul Majeed Mir alias Majnoon Resident of Baghi Islam, Baramulla has been detained under J&K Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1988, (J&K PIT NDPSA) under the orders of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir on the basis of dossier submitted by Baramulla Police. Under J&K PIT NDPSA Divisional Commissioner is empowered to order detention of any such person who is involved in supplying drugs to people or dealing in such trade.
The accused is a habitual offender and had earlier also been detained under similar act but he continued to indulge in illicit activities and people of Baramulla approached police asking for his re-detention in view of his unabated antisocial activities. Earlier on many drug peddlers from Baramulla and Pattan area have been got detained by police dossiers and lodged in various jails of state for long durations. Police will continue to hunt for all such elements who are in any way involved in drug trafficking.
Baramulla Police is also running a *Drug De-Addiction* *Centre* in old hospital Baramulla for such persons who are suffering from drug and substance abuse and imparting treatment to such addicts. People are requested to avail the facility and get their wards suffering from drug abuse admitted in the centre for treatment.
