Stresses on organizing more activities
Gulmarg, Nov 04: Secretary Tourism Sarmad Hafeez Saturday took a review meeting at Gulmarg to oversee the preparations for the winter months of the famous ski resort.
The meeting was attended by Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah, MD Cable Car Shamim Wani, CEO of Gulmarg Development Authority Hanief Balkhi, Assistant Director Tourism Gulmarg Ilyas Ahmad, SDM Tangmarg Abdul Aziz, Principal Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering Colonel J S Dhillon and hoteliers.
Secretary Tourism stressed on organizing more activities during winter months in Gulmarg.
He said cultural programs should be organized during weekend days and also special evening programs and emphasized on the need of having coffee shops at many points at Gulmarg.
During the meeting, clearance of snow in time, smooth operations of ski lifts and snow beating machines, maintenance of slopes, readiness of ski patrolling teams for rescue operations, logistic support for heli-skiing, besides maintenance of ice-skating rinks were discussed.
The meeting also discussed holding of winter sports activities like ski and snowboarding championships, ice-staking camps in addition to the snow festival.
He also inspected the renovation of the Maharaja Palace and directed the officers that its past glory should be maintained.
He also reviewed the progress of the construction pony track at the resort besides taking the stock of the blacktopping of the Gulmarg road.
On the occasion, the hoteliers apprised the Secretary Tourism of the issues like permission for the renovation of their properties besides erratic water supply in winter which, they said, are hampering them in providing proper service to the tourists.
He assured them that all necessary steps would be taken to address the issues.
Director tourism Kashmir said Gulmarg is the main attraction of the state for winter tourism and department is taking all out efforts to keep the place abuzz with lot of activities.
Later on, secretary tourism along with director tourism Kashmir and other officers participate in Khyber Awards.
At the award ceremony, Secretary Tourism appreciated the role of travel agents in bringing tourists to the state and assured them that the department would make every effort to promote J&K as he top tourist destination. (KNS)
