Talking ‘Azadi’ in landlocked Kashmir wrong: Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, November 11: Kashmir is landlocked and cornered by three nuclear powers and those who talk of its ‘Azadi’ are wrong, National Conference (NC) president and parliamentarian Farooq Abdullah said today.
The NC president, who is also former J&K Chief Minister, said there is no “issue of freedom here” in Kashmir. “We are landlocked. On one side we have China, Pakistan on the other side and India on the third side. All three of them have atom bombs. We have nothing except Allah’s name. Those who are talking about Azadi are talking wrong,” he told reporters at party headquarters here in Nawai-e-Subh complex.

According to news agency GNS, Farooq said the Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) belongs to Pakistan while this part of Kashmir belongs to India. “…the part which is with Pakistan belongs to Pakistan and this side to India and this won’t change,” he said, adding that the status quo shall prevail even if India and Pakistan fight as many as wars they want to. He said both countries have only one option and that is dialogue which he said would bring peace to people of Kashmir living on both sides of the line of control.

Farooq urged both the countries to grant autonomy to either parts of Kashmir. He accused India of betraying Kashmiri people who according to Farooq joined it “out of love”. “India didn’t treat us well. India betrayed us. They didn’t recognize the love with which we chose to join them. That is the reason behind the current situation in Kashmir. Internal autonomy is our right. They should restore it (autonomy) and only then the peace will return,” he added. (GNS)
