Srinagar, Dec 20: The staff engaged under MGNREGA on the ten o their strike and protests on Wednesday succeeded in reaching Rajbhawan and inform the governor N N Vohra for the demand of their regularization.
Reports reaching news agency GNS said that hundreds of protesters under the banner of All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association assembled at Exhibition Ground and then started protest demonstration. The workers from across the state joined the protest program.
Later they proceeded in groups towards Rajbhawan and succeeded in meeting governor and present a memo of their demands to him. “The governor assured to take up the matter with the government,” a member of the association told GNS.
Earlier, president of the association Jan Mohammed, vice president Sandeep Kalotra and others addressed the gathering and said that despite assurance by the RDD Minister to frame a definite policy for the regularization of MGNREGA workers, nothing has been done so far.
They said that these workers including GRS, Technical Assistants, MIS Operators are being exploited by the Government and are being provided just peanuts as salary.
“We will continue with protest until for genuine demands are not met,” they said. Besides framing of job policy, they demand salary at par with SSA.
“This is a ‘do and die’ agitation in favour of legitimate demands and we will continue it till our genuine demands are not fulfilled,” they said. (GNS)
