Kupwara J&K , Dec 23 : District Development Commissioner Kupwara , Khalid Jahangir , today chaired a meeting of District Advisory Committee for implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC&PNDT) to review the initiatives for implementation of the Act against the prenatal testing for sex determination.
Threadbare discussion was held on various aspects of the Act including issuance of registration certificates for various ultrasound clinics, ensuring continual monitoring of these establishments, enhancing accountability to prevent violations etc.
According to our Bureau Head Wasim Majnoon Mir, the DDC asked the concerned to ensure regular monitoring of these establishments for ensuring strict compliance with the provisions of the aforesaid Act.
Exhorting the need for better coordination between the concerned agencies and for generating mass awareness about the Act, the DDC said that the need is to bring about a change in the mindsets of the people to check the declining sex ratio. He said stringent laws along with motivating the people in a right perspective is imperative to bring about social change and deter the people from indulging in undesirable practices.
DHO Nodal officer, Chief Planning officer, District social welfare officer, Medical Superintendent Kupwara, Senior Gynecologist District Hospital Handwara, Advocate Bilal Ahmad, Mr. Saifu Din Mir (social worker) and other officials participated in the meeting.
