GDC Baramulla felicitates students awarded in photography competitions 

Ceremony was attended by all the students of DMS 

Baramulla, Dec 23: A felicitation ceremony was today held at Government Degree College Boys Baramulla to honour the three students of Department of Media Studies (DMS) who bagged awards in the photography competitions of the University of Kashmir and the Chandigarh University.

In the Sonzal students’ festival of the University of Kashmir, two students of the DMS Mohammad Abu Bakar and Danish Tariq won 3rd and 5th prizes respectively in photography, competing with 60 participants from other educational institutions of Kashmir.  

Last month Adnan Fayaz final year student of DMS bagged 2nd prize in a national-level photography competition organized by the Chandigarh University.

Congratulating the awarded students, Principal Prof F R Beigh said such achievements serve as inspiration for other students. “Media students of the college have been bringing laurels to our institution. The college will continue to support them participate in competitions and demonstrate their skills at local and national level,” he added.  

Prof Tariq A Chalkoo, Coordinator of DMS while lauding the performance of students in the photography competitions urged them to build on their skills. “You should show keenness to participate in such competitions which will boost your confidence and expose you to a healthy competitive media environment,” he told the media trainees.  

The awarded students exhibited their award-winning pictures and shared their experiences with the faculty and students.  

On the occasion senior faculty member Akhtar Neyaz presented an overview of the achievements of the DMS and detailed the success stories of the alumni who work with national and international organizations.

The ceremony was attended by all the students of the DMS and faculty members including Parvaiz Lone, Afzal Sofi, Runaq Zahoor and Shabir Ahmad. The proceedings were conducted by Arshie Showkat. (KNS)
