Qazigund, Dec 4, : A gunfight raged in South Kashmir after militants attacked a Road Opening Party on Srinagar Jammu highway on Monday.

   Reports said that a group of militants targeted a Road Opening Party between Bonigam and Bhadragund  on Srinagar Jammu highway in Qazigund area.

   Srinagar based Defense spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that a soldier was injured in the attack who is undergoing treatment.

    Reports said that shortly after the attack, Government Forces cordoned off the area while militants entered into a building that was cornered by Forces.

    Witnesses said that heavy exchange of firing was going on between the trapped militants and the Government Forces. An official said that two to three militants are believed to be trapped inside the building.

    Local youth according to reports clashed with Forces near encounter site. Government Forces fired tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse them.

    Due to gunfight, authorities suspended traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway while train service to Banihal was also stopped.

    Locals said that they heard massive blasts during evening hours and it seemed the building in which militant are present have been razed to ground.

   Defense Spokesperson said the operation against militants is going on and so far they haven’t recovered dead body of any militant. (CNS)
