Mumbai, December 5: In a bid to counter Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio, India’s telecom major Bharti Airtel has slashed the price of its 4G hotspot and 4G dongle by 50%. The 4G hotspot and 4G dongle come as a direct competition to Reliance Jio’s JioFi. As per details on Airtel’s website, the Airtel 4G Hotspot is available for Rs 999 which was earlier priced at Rs 1,950. Airtel has also revised the price of its 4G Dongle to Rs 1,500 against the original price of Rs 3,000.
The latest Airtel offer comes after Reliance Jio, earlier in September, announced a 50 percent discount on its JioFi device. The JioFi device is priced at Rs 999 instead of its launch price of Rs 1,999. It has to be noted that the discounted 4G Hotspot is only available for Airtel postpaid customers. As per reports, Airtel postpaid customers have to make Rs 501 advance payment, which would be discounted on the user’s first or second bill. It has to be noted that this discount offer is only applicable when buying the device with a recharge plan priced Rs 499 and above. However, no such conditions are applicable on Airtel’s 4G Dongle.
Airtel’s 4G Hotspot does not require USB connections and can support up to 10 devices at a time. As per details on the company’s website, the Hotspot features a 1500mAh Li-ion Polymer battery that lasts up to six hours. It also has 3G or 2G connectivity options. Meanwhile, JioFi has a download speed up to 150Mbps and upload speed up to 50 Mbps and comes with 2300mAh battery that should last up to five or six hours. As far as features are concerned, the JioFi device comes with include HD voice calling services, high-speed internet and over 10 devices connected.
However, Jio recommends only up to 10 devices to be connected to its JioFi. The Company said JioFi has a download speed up to 150Mbps and upload speed up to 50 Mbps. The JioFi also comes with 2300mAh battery that should last up to five or six hours the company said.
