‘No acid attack incident reported’

Srinagar, Dec 13: Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed six dowry deaths in the year 2016, reveals the latest National Crime Report Bureau (NCRB) report.

According to the NCRB report, 0.1 crime rate in dowry deaths were reported in Jammu and Kashmir under section 304B IPC as six persons became the victim of dowry deaths. “Six incidents of dowry deaths were reported in JK in 2016,” NCRB report said.

The NCRB report further stated that 574 incidents of attempt to commit murder took place in the year 2016 while 635 became victim in this regard.
The report said that the crime rate in attempt to commit murder in JK has been recorded as 4.6 in 2016.

Notably, no dowry death was reported in four of the states including Sikkim, Mizoram, Manipur and Meghalaya in previous year while one dowry death was reported in Arunachal Pradesh in 2016.
The NCRB report further added that in the previous year no acid attack incident has taken place in the state.

In next table, it added that 1235 incidents of ‘Assault on Women With Intent To Outrage Her Modesty’ has taken place in JK while 1254 became victims, taking the crime rate in this regard to 20.7.

“253 incidents of sexual harassment under Sec 354A IPC took place in JK while 272 became victims, taking the crime rate to 4.2,” it added. (KNS)
