The Kishtwar Police has launched a massive crackdown all across the district against the drug peddlers. The police in various raids has recovered various drugs including Charas and tablets of various types.

Police has registered various FIRs in this regard and has arrested two women among others. The police has also booked a special police officer ((SPO) for indulging in drug peddeling and has dismissed him from services in the police department.
Divulging the details of crackdown, the Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary in a press conference disclosed that the police continuing its onslaught against drug abuse and drug peddlers had developed various information’s of drug delivery among youth and students in various areas of the district in the last few days. The police accordingly planned raids and laid special nakas in different locations. During these raids and nakas police has recovered a huge quantity of drugs and arrested many persons including women and a police

personnel.
The SSP said that during police patrolling in Om Mehta Road area police party headed by inspector Sameer Jillani SHO Police Station Kishtwar, in a specific information, intercepted two women and their search was got conducted through women police officials. During the search police recovered 1 Kg and 800 grams Charas from their possession. The police has arrested both the ladies on the spot. They have been identified as 1) Gulshana Begum w/o Mohd Yaseen Reshi R/O Dellar, Tehsil Chathroo

and 2) Zahida Begum W/O Mohd Iqbal Reshi R/O Dellar, Tehsil Chathroo. The police has registered case FIR No. 268/17 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act in this regard.
In another raid, the police on a specific information searched the shop of one Manoj Kumar @ Baba S/O Rikhi Raj R/O Nagni, Kishtwar and during the search police recovered 24 strips of TopSpas tablets from the shop. The police has arrested him forthwith. In this connection case FIR No 267 u/s 48 (a) Exise Act has been registered in police station Kishtwar. It may be mentioned that Manoj @Baba had a huge network of drug abusers with him as customers. The police was after him since last couple of months but due to his cleverness he used to get escaped, said the SSP. The police has also identified the medical shop from which he used to get supplies of banned drugs. The police has recommended the cancellation of the licence of the shop owner and an action in this regard is expected any time.
In yet another raid, on a specific information, police laid a special naka in Bonsthan area and intercepted one Amit Singh S/O Mastan Singh R/O Dool, Kishtwar, who is also a Special Police Officer (SPO). On his personal search police has recovered 300 grams of Charas from his possession. The police party has arrested him on the spot. In this connection police has registered case FIR No. 269/2017, u/s 8/20 NDPS Act in Police Station Kishtwar. The Senior Superintendent of Police Abrar Chowdhary has informed that the SPO involved and arrested in the case has been dismissed from service.
He further informed that the drug peddlers have changed their modus operandi and are now using their women accomplices to transport and deliver the drug consignments. As a result of this only two women drug peddlers have been arrested in the raids conducted today.
The senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary said that the crime of drug peddling is even worse than that of terrorism. He said that district police has adopted a sub-zero tolerance policy against drug abuse and drug peddlers.
He said that war against drugs by Kishtwar police shall continue till the menace is eradicated firm the districtcompletely.
