Patients suffer as SDH Tangdar faces acute shortage of doctors, paramedics

Wrote to higher ups, they didn’t respond: BMO

Srinagar, Dec 08: The lack of doctors and paramedical staff at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangdar has come under severe criticism with the patients as well as their attendants, alleging it to be a reason of immense hardships.
According to KNS correspondent, Peerzada Aadil, the patients and their attendants said that the lack of doctors at SDH is putting their lives at risk.
They said that a few doctors remain present in the SDH to tackle the huge rush of patients.
Officials said that at least 27 doctors were posted at SDH Tangdar but 20 among them didn’t join their duties here and managed to get posted at other place.
“Out of 27 only seven doctors have joined their duties here while one among them has been sent to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Teetwal,” they said.
Besides doctors, the paramedical staff at SDH Tangdar also didn’t join their duties here. “At least 138 paramedics were posted here but only 74 joined their duties while the remaining 64 didn’t,” officials informed KNS.
The locals said that the lack of child specialist and eye specialist has added to the woes of patients. “We approached to the higher ups several times in this regard but unfortunately the sufferings of the locals didn’t end,” they said.
They said that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in her recent visit to the Valley promised upgradation of the health sector here but so far nothing has been done in this regard.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr Muhammad Yousuf told KNS that he wrote to the higher ups several times in this regard. “The higher ups assured me several times but the promises are yet to be fulfilled,” he said. (KNS)
