Srinagar, Dec 08: In view of the protest call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), the authorities on Friday imposed partial restrictions in Srinagar parts.
The JRL comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had called for protests today against the US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Officials said that the partial restrictions were today imposed in Srinagar parts including Nowhatta, Mahraj Gunj and Safa Kadal areas to thwart any possible protest against the US decision.
According to the KNS correspondent, authorities also barred the Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid today.
“The forces deployed in the area didn’t allow us to offer the mandatory congregational prayers at the Jamia Masjid,” the locals said.
Meanwhile, in view of the protest call, the Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman and Jamia Masjid head cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention on Thursday evening.
Mirwaiz termed the restrictions imposed in Srinagar areas as ‘Shameful Operating Procedure (SOP)’.
The Mirwaiz said that the ‘authoritarian regime’ has once again resorted to SOP and disallowed Friday congregational prayers.
“Muslims were barred to express their resentment against the US decision on Jerusalem issue,” he said.
“Once again the authoritarian regime has resorted to its SOP #ShamefulOperatingProcedure of imposing restrictions and disallowing Muslims by force from offerings Friday prayers at #JamaMasjd and peacefully expressing their resentment against the US decision on #AQudsAlSharief,” Mirwaiz wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the protest against the trump’s decision was carried out at various places in Kahsmir including Zadibal, Hassnabad, Maisuma and Budgam during which the people raised slogans against Donald Trump, US and Israel.
The protest in Srinagar was carried out by JKLF leaders and activists.
JKLF leaders and activists including Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Muhammad Yasin Butt, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, Sheikh Abdul Rashid , Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Ashraf bin Salam, professor Javed, Ghulam Muhammad Dar , Muhammad Haneef and others along with other people gathered at Madina Chowk near Lal Chowk.
Displaying placards depicting slogans in favor of Palestinian people and against US move, and raising slogans against US decision of declaring Jerusalem as capital of Israel, protestors marched towards Budshah Chowk Lal Chowk where they sat on a peaceful sit-in.
The Sit-in was addressed by various JKLF leaders.
At other places in the Valley, the protesters were seen holding placards reading anti-US and Israel slogans.
The people of the Valley condemned the US decision and asked Muslim countries to forge unity and ask UN to intervene into the matter. (KNS)
