Srinagar, Dec 25: A shutdown was observed in main township of Pulwama district on Monday to commemorate the second death anniversary of local militant Umais Ahmad who killed two years ago at Bandipora district during a firefight.

While no resistance or militant outfit had called for the strike, people spontaneously suspended their business activities and observed the shutdown today. All the shops and commercial establishments were closed in Pulwama Town today while traffic was also skeletal.

Umais, a resident of Chatpora locality of the Pulwama Town, was killed in a brief gunfight two years at Ajas area of Bandipora district. His killing had triggered widespread protests in Pulwama.

Meanwhile reports this evening said that militants appeared at Rajpora Chowk this evening and fired several gunshots in air to pay respect to Umais. (GNS)
