Anantnag, Dec 05: The entire Anantnag is facing huge inconvenience due to the erratic power supply, and the concerned power development department is attributing it to the misuse and power theft of electricity by people.
The unscheduled and frequent power cuts are taking a heavy toll on students whose education suffers due to outages.
The cuts by the Power Development Department (PDD) have made students suffer during the exams which are being held currently. The 10th,12th class Board exams are going on while as many students are preparing for other competitive exams.
“The electricity cuts have intensified since one month particularly from the time of Darbar move. Power cuts are more frequent during morning and evening hours” said a group of parents.
They said that their children, appearing in the Board examinations, were the worst sufferers.
“Our children are unable to study properly in absence of power,” said Peerzada Faisal a resident of Verinag
“Though PDD says that that they have a power schedule but they don’t follow it properly which is becoming a major concern for the masses particularly the students.
The PDD should also follow the prescribed curtailment schedule properly,” said a student. “ It is unfortunate that the authorities resort to unscheduled power cuts in the morning and evening hours, which is the ideal time to study.”
Many students complained that the power-cuts were badly affecting their studies.
“How can we study in absence of power? Instead of resorting to power cuts, the PDD should ensure uninterrupted power supply these days keeping in view the examination session,” they said.
“Instead of resorting to power cuts during morning and evening hours, the PDD should do it during the daytime so that the student fraternity doesn’t suffer.
These power cuts can ruin careers of hundreds of students,” Aqib Ahmad Wani a class 12 student said.
