Amid shutdown, internet gag Hizb militant laid to rest

 

Srinagar, Jan 10: Thousands of people today attended the funeral of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Farhan Ahmad Wani at Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district amid a complete shutdown.

 

According to GNS, thousands of people assembled at Khudwani to attend the funeral of Wani who was killed yesterday during a gunfight with forces at Larnow, Kokernag in the district.

They, the locals, said that despite curbs, thousands of people assembled at Khudwani and participated in the last rites of the slain militant amid massive anti-India and pro-freedom sloganeering. They said that several rounds of funerals were held for the Farhan. The mourners waved Pakistani flags on the occasion and chanted pro-militant slogans.

Soon after the funeral was over, clashes erupted at Khudwani between youths and government forces. Police used teargas canisters against the protesters. A complete shutdown was observed in the district against the killing of the youth Khalid Ahmed Dar (22) and the militant.

Besides, shutdown in Kulgam, neighbouring Anantnag and Shopian districts also observed strike over the killings.

 

Meanwhile, internet continues to remain blocked in South Kashmir on second consecutive day today. While as railway service also suspended to and from Srinagar to Banihal for today and will remain suspended for tomorrow. (GNS)
