Don’t insist on failed policies, accept Himalayan reality: Geelani-led Hurriyat to New Delhi

Srinagar, Jan 9 : Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday said Congress party responsible for lingering and delaying of Kashmir dispute and asserted that leaders of this party had pledged at national and international level to resolve the issue and provide opportunity to people to decide their political destiny.

Hurriyat (G) led by Syed Ali Geelani was reacting to the statement of former home minister and Congress leader P. Chidambaram who on Sunday attacked the Government of India over its policy on Kashmir saying that “wisdom lay in actively working towards a political solution to the issue of J&K”.

Hurriyat (G) in a statement issued to GNS said the Government of India is yet to accept that Kashmir was a disputed territory and not law and order problem.

Hurriyat (G) said the people of J&K presented unparalleled sacrifices for Kashmir resolution and that Congress during its 60 years of rule resorted to every “brute and ruthless force” to “curb and suppress voices” in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Now, they openly recommend the BJP leadership that power and oppression will not solve the issue of Kashmir. It is our stand that Kashmir is a political problem and only political measures can resolve this long pending issue,” Hurriyat (G) said.

Hurriyat (G) said New Delhi all “cruel and barbaric” tactics for the last 71 years have failed in changing the status of the Kashmir dispute. It said Kashmiris were against the “forced occupation” in the past and they openly challenge it on this day.

Hurriyat (G) said New Delhi tried to buy Kashmiris with different benefits, perks and perquisite but the result is a ‘big zero’ and after about seven decades now only few people sold themselves against these salaries and perks.

“The freedom sentiment of youth of Kashmir is more strong and firm and they won’t compromise on Kashmir issue,” it said.

“If RSS and other fanatic people and parties will continue to pursue their rigid policies even in future, they will get nothing. Every passing day will prove tougher and harsher for them and they will not succeed in suppressing the freedom sentiments of the Kashmiri people,” Hurriyat (G) said.

Hurriyat (G) advised the policy makers in New Delhi to open their eyes and accept the “Himalayan reality” and don’t insist on your “failed policies” on Kashmir. “This will benefit the people of this country the most,” it said.

“It is better for RSS and BJP that they think with cool mind over it and respect the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people and give them a chance to decide their future,” Hurriyat (G) said. (GNS)
