Srinagar, Jan 31: An earthquake of 6.1 magnitude jolted Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, forcing people to rush out of their homes.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake having epicenter 35 km south of Jarm in Afghanistan jolted parts of Pakistan and north India at 12:37 pm Indian time.
The quake struck at a depth of 191 kilometres, it said.
The epicentre was located 265km northeast of the Afghan capital, Kabul and 120km west of Pakistan’s Chitral in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, said a news report.
The area has been frequently hit by earthquakes over past few years. CNS
