General Rawat’s prescription reflects RSS thinking: Soz
Kashmiris can never accept it’

Srinagar, Jan 14: Former union minister and senior Congress leader, Prof Saifuddin Soz on Sunday said that the statement of General Rawat before a press conference on the sidelines of the Army Day has evoked considerable alarm in Kashmir.

Soz said that one does not understand why the General was drawn into making an extremely political and controversial statement which has added a new dimension to the strife in Kashmir.

“One also doesn’t understand as to how the General envisages a reform of the processes that suits his perception on Kashmir in respect of syllabus in schools, teaching methods, correction of maps, changing religious discourse, reforming preaching in mosques, reform in teaching in Madarasas, to suit his perception on Kashmir situation.

Thegeneral run of Kashmiris, represented by the main stream as well as separatist camps, have a feeling that the General wants nothing short of the RSS prescription on resolution of the Kashmir problem.

Theassessment in Kashmir is that he (the General) ultimately wants to take measures to ensure a demographic transformation in Kashmir. Its further implication is that he has made a clear political statement in line with the RSS’s avowed perception on Kashmir which Kashmiris can never accept”, Soz said.

He said that this is General’s pure ‘day-dreaming’ and it constitutes an affront to the democratic and secular way of life in India!

“It is an imperative for Govt of India to discuss the General’s suggestions and then come forward to take a position on this extremely provocative statement on Kashmir”, he said.

“I will be asking the state’s CM, for the first time, to tell Kashmiris what she thinks about the General’s statement which is potentially and dangerously political”, Soz said.

He said that I also take this opportunity to congratulate Syed M. Altaf Bukhari, the State Education Minister, for his forthright rebuttal of the General’s uncalled for remarks. (KNS)
