‘Govt has miserably failed to safeguard lives of border residents’

Jammu, Jan 21: While blaming the BJP-led government’s failed foreign policy as reason for increase in ceasefire violations along the LoC and international border in Jammu and Kashmir, State Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice president and MLC G N Monga today said that the Government has miserably failed to safeguard the lives of border residents.

“After regular Chinese incursions and ceasefire violations by Pakistan, in which dozens of civilians and security personnel have lost their lives, people in the country are asking questions to those who used to flaunt ‘Chhappan Inch Chhati’ (56 inch chest). The increase in ceasefire violations and violence in Kashmir has been the outcome of the weak and flawed policies of both Central and State Governments,” he said in a statement issued to press in Jammu.

“The promises made with the people prior to the Parliament and Assembly elections of 2014 have remained unfulfilled even more than three years have passed. The problems faced by the border residents are increasing day-by-day, but the Government is least bothered about it.

The intense shelling has resulted in large scale displacement of population, especially those living near the Line of Control and International Border,” Monga said and added the continuous shelling and firing on the border has resulted in killings, destruction of property, closure of educational institutions and immense hardships to poor people.

The Congress leader said that the Center Government has no roadmap whatsoever to deal with this recurring problem. “It is high time that the BJP leadership instead of making tall claims in the media, come to the rescue of the thousands of border dwellers whose life has become hell in the last nearly four years of BJP rule.”

He said the situation in J&K was alarming and attacked the Central and state Governments, saying the repeated incidents of ceasefire violations were a result of its weak and flawed policies. (KNS)
