Srinagar, Jan 28 : Commenting on the two civilian killings at Gonowpora (Shopian) yesterday due to the firing by 10 Garwal Unit of Army, The J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir asked the Government to explain as to what measures it will take to contain civilian killings in future, saying that ordering magisterial probe into the innocent killing is good, but it should be result oriented, besides the probe should fix responsibility for the civilian and innocent killings.
Expressing serious concern over the Shopian Killings, G.A. Mir while strongly condemning the killings said that mere ordering probes or lodging FIR won’t serve any purpose, unless & until the action is initiated and responsibilities fixed against the involved personnel, because the loss of lives will further deepen the alienation among the people, who were already living in isolation due to the anti-people policies adopted by PDP BJP ruling dispensation.
Mentioning that regular incidents of killing of civilians has created a notion among the people that they were being targeted for being Kashmiri,, G.A. Mir said that people believe that nothing will happen, no action against the involved personnel will be taken, as a result, they have lost faith in so called FIRs or Magisterial Probes,
He expressed serious concern over Shopian Killings and urged upon the Forces to exercise restraint while dealing with the protesters, for the fact, protesters are not the militants, they doesn’t hold any weapon in their hands, but at the same time, G.A. Mir urged upon the youth not to confront Forces, appealing them to stop pelting stones and do not take law in their hands, as that creating disturbances or violence won’t serve any purpose, rather it endangers lives of civilians besides vitiating peace and tranquility, he added.
G.A. Mir emphasized that killing of innocent civilian has to stop in the larger interests of peace and stability, urging upon the Centre and State Government to ensure that people live without any fear or fret inorder to infuse sense of security among them. (KNS)
