Srinagar, Mar 14: The eight death anniversary of former General Secretary of Awami Action Committee (AAC) Khawja Ghulam Muhammad Bhat was observed at the party headquarters, Mirwaiz Manzil Srinagar today.
Quran Khawani and special prayers were held for the deceased by the members of AAC while senior party members activists and workers were present on the occasion. The special prayers were led by AAC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Zaki who was closely associated with the deceased.
The incarcerated AAC patron and APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to remain under illegal house detention ,also paid rich tributes to Bhat Sb and termed him a great warrior who always worked for the party’s interests and for the people of Kashmir.Mirwaiz said Bhat Sb throughout his life remained in the forefront of political activism and worked tirelessly for the party stand of achieving the right to self determination.
He said Bhat Sb contribution can never be forgotten and all the party members would always remember him with great regard and respect.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Ghulam Qadir Beig, and the son of deceased Bhat, Muhammad Yousuf Bhat highlighted the role of former general secretary of AAC and termed him an inspiration for the present members and leaders of AAC. The speakers said the death of Bhat had created a void in AAC which is still felt even after the gap of eight years.
The speakers strongly condemned the continuous house detention of APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stating that it is height of repression that Miwaiz is frequently barred to carry out his social, religious and political duties. They said no matter how brutal and repressive measures are taken by the ruling regime to build pressure on the resistance leadership, all such measures are destined to taste defeat as people and leadership are bound to take the movement forward and achieve their goal
