Anganwadi workers, helpers protest: ‘Will lock down all centres if demands not met’

Srinagar, March 3: Anganwari Workers and Helpers Association Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday staged a protest demonstration here, demanding redressal of their “genuine” demands.

According to GNS correspondent, the protesters assembled at Srinagar’s Partap Park and threatened to lock down all the centres against government’s “failure” to enhance their salary as promised in 2016.

“We will intensify the stir if the demands are not fulfilled,” they said, adding, “In June 2016, the government had assured us that our salary will be hiked but nothing has been done.”

“We get the least share from state government apart from central funds as compared to Anganwadi workers of states outside Kashmir,” the protesters added.

They said the government has backtracked from its promises.

“We have called to lock down all Anganwadi centres, since the government is not serious about enhancing our salaries despite our tireless work,” they said. (GNS)
