Srinagar 17 March: Anti Drug Alliance Srinagar an initiative of three youngsters Abrar Ahmad Malik aged 21 , Sakib Mehraj Bhat aged 20 and Zaid Kathwari aged 20 is making a very positive difference against the drug menace in Kashmir . All these hail from Downtown area of Srinagar.
Based in Srinagar and running since 8 months, with already 45 members in its fold the organization is determined to root out the drug abuse from Kashmir.
Talking to The Kashmir News Bureau, these three youngsters stated – “We have been in field since 8 months as we in downtown are witness to disasters the menace of drug addiction inflicts on humans especially youth . We work in collaboration with Help foundation and counsel the drug addicts to bring them back to normal life and also get assistance of Jammu and Kashmir Police to rehabilitate those entangled in drug abuse. Our thrust remains on awareness.”
These youngsters state that via their work on ground zero they have come to know about worrying facts about growing drug menace in Kashmir. “A large number of girls are involved in Drug addiction and we are focusing on that aspect too so as to root out this negative thing and in addition it is not the case that Drug abuse is just the rich man’s hobby but for mere Rs 5 or Rs 10 a poor man can buy any medicine and become drug addict.”
Pertinently, anti Drug Alliance has held many protests to bring to light the burning issue of drug abuse and in April-May hope to conduct an event where they aware masses about menace of drug addiction through medium of entertainment. They are also planning more protests, marathons in their fight against drug menace.
“Tougher laws and going after the roots of drug addiction and exemplary punishment to drug peddlers is the way ahead to end this evil from our society,” state these youngsters of Anti Drug Alliance.(KNB)
