Srinagar, 31 March: Kashmir-based photojournalist Dar Yasin, working with Associated Press (AP), has won “‘Best of Photojournalism awards” for his coverage on the exodus of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar, according to the BOP website. Dar won the 1st prize in International News for the picture of dead Rohingya children after their boat capsized while fleeing the violence in Myanmar. And 2nd prize for the story on the Exodus of Rohingya Muslim. It is Dar’s 5th award this year.
Renowned as “the contest designed for photojournalists by photojournalists,” NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism competition annually attracts the most talented professionals in four divisions – still, video, multimedia and editing.
The images and stories entered in the competition are created by some of the most outstanding visual journalists of our time. More than just compelling photos and videos, though, the entries are storytelling images and essays about some of the most important issues facing us today. The competition truly is a rejoicing of the fact that photojournalism remains the best way to tell the world’s story!
