Srinagar, March 24: Director General of Police SP Vaid has requested the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and families of other youth who have joined militant ranks to persuade their sons to “shun the path of violence” and return to their homes.
Sehrai’s son Junaid Ashraf has reportedly joined the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.
Junaid’s picture showing him wielding AK-47 rifle went viral on social media on Saturday; hours after his family filed a missing report at Saddar Police Station here. The photograph also shows he has joined Hizbul Mujahideen.
“I appeal the families of Junaid and other youth who have joined militant ranks to persuade their kids to give up the path of violence and return to their families,” DGP told GNS.
Asked about his reaction over the joining of militant ranks by Aabid Maqbool Bhat, the son of police head constable Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, the DGP said he urges the family to request their son to return back.
“I have not seen the picture but in case, he has joined militant ranks, I request his family also to urge their son to return back,” Vaid said. (GNS)
