Dr Mir Samiullah sets another benchmark in laparoscopic surgery

Srinagar, Mar 12: Renowned Gastroenterologist from Kashmir who runs Star Hospital performed laparoscopic fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) for the first time in Valley.

“A patient namely Zamrooda (28) from South Kashmir’s Pulwama district was operated for chronic GERD and hiatus hernia at Star Hospital and laparascopic fundoplication was done which is considered to be an advanced procedure in laparascopic surgery.”

“These type of advanced laparascopic surgery are now routinely performed by Dr Sammiullah with utmost preciseness,” reads a statement issued by Star Hospital.

GERD is a condition wherein stomach contents flow back up into the esophagus and causes a burning sensation in the throat, referred to as heart burn. Heartburn is a common symptom, affecting up to 7% of the total population. Out of this 7%, it is estimated that about 20-40% is caused by GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease). This condition affects males as much as it affects females. It also occurs across all age groups, but is more commonly seen in people over the age of 40. (CNS)
