Srinagar,Mar 27: A family from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of human rights activist Salman Yousuf inside the jail.
Salman Yousuf according to his wife Zamrooda has been languishing in jail from past 1.6 years under draconian Public Safety Act.
“My husband is a human rights campaigner as well as the Coordinator of Institute of Human Rights Studies. He was arrested in September 2016 after Kashmir witnessed popular people’s agitation. Since then he has been sent to at least 5 jails Kathua and Kotbhalwal,” Zamrooda said.
She said a couple of days back authorities at Srinagar Central Jail informed her that Yousuf has been shifted to Bandipora Police Station. We have been living from hand to mouth as he was the sole bread earner,” she said.
While seeking intervention of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, she requested authorities to release her husband.
Zamrooda said that Jammu Kashmir High Court quashed his detention order but instead of releasing him, Police once again slapped PSA on him and shifted him to jail.
Pertinently, Salman Yousuf is the key researcher of the JKCCS documentary titled Structure of Violence. Besides this he has also worked for IKS.(CNS)
