Bandipora, Mar 1: A militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Thursday morning.

Police said that on a specific information Army’s 13 RR, Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched cordon and search operation at Sukur Din Mohlla Hajin early Thursday morning.

“As forces tightened the cordon the hiding militants opened fire on forces which triggered gunfight. In exchange of firing a militant was killed,” they said.

SSP Bandipora Sheikh Zulifkar told CNS that the slain militant was involved in a number of militancy related acts. He identified the slain militant as Osama alias Fehadullah and said he was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

He said during encounter arms and ammunition which include AK 47 rifles and other incriminating materials were recovered.

Following the encounter people came out and pelted forces with stones which triggered massive clashes between forces and locals. (CNS)
