Illicit timber seized, two arrested: DFO

Ganderbal, 30 March: loot of green gold is rampat in some area’s of central Kashmir’s District Ganderbal.
Some people in connivance with Forest officials have been looting the green gold freely in central Kashmir’s forest. In absence of any checking and surveillance, the smugglers were destroying the forest wealth in different forest ranges of Ganderbal District.
A big mafia is active to loot forests and they enjoyed the patronage of higher ups.
“Scores of trees at forest range in wayil and kangan have been cut. Such a loot on massive scale is impossible without the active support of men at the helm of affairs” some locals said.
Meanwhile DFO Ganderbal on Thursday have seized illicit timber during night in Anderwan an area of Wayil range of the District.
DFO Ganderbal Shabir Ahmad talking to this reporter over phone said, On a specific information we conducted a night patrolling and intercepted a car bearing register number JKO4B-9859 in Anderwan, While checking the car 50 pieces of timber planks were recovered from the vehicle.
He added we have seized the vehicle as well as the timber and two person have been arrested, a case under FIR NO: 9FA/2018 has been also registered, further investigation of the case is going on.
