Srinagar, March 11: Massive clashes erupted on Sunday at Drabgam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district soon after government forces launched a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) in the area.
Official sources told GNS that a joint team of army’s 44 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege at Drabgam village on Sunday afternoon following the intelligence inputs about the presence of some militants.
As the forces launched the search operation in the village, scores of youth took to streets and started pelting stones on the forces. Police and paramilitary CRPF fired tear smoke shells and pellet guns to disperse them.
The pitched battle continued till forces withdrew the operation from the area.
SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary told GNS that the operation was launched based on the information about the presence of some militants in the area.
“The operation is almost over now and the search parties are returning back from the area,” SSP said.
