Srinagar, March 27: Forest officials on Tuesday said that a fire in woods at Zurhama Gujarpati in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was controlled by them amid ongoing search operation by the army in the forests.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kehmil, Kupwara, Devinder Paul Singh told news agency GNS that the forest fire has been controlled completely as of now.

“Three days before at around 1:00 pm we received information about the fire inside the forests of Gujerpati and immediately a team of forest officials led by the Ranger concerned Feroz Ahmad was deputed to the spot to douse off the flames,” the DFO said.

He said that on the very first day 80 percent of the fire was brought under control and on next day the operation was hampered due to ongoing search operation launched by the army in the area.

“I myself visited the area and took stock of the situation and today the fire has been completely brought under control,” DFO said. (GNS)
