Srinagar, March 15: A senior Hizbul Mujhadeen militant Muhammad Younis Bhat passed away due to brain hemorrhage.
He was a resident of Khonmou Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Bhat was a known figure in his area and was respected by all for his highest degree of character.
He suffered brain hemorrhage while offering prayers at local Masjid on March 13. He was shifted to hospital where he died after battling for life for 22 hours.
Family sources said that Younis was just 17 when he joined Hizbul Mujhadeen. He spent over 12 years in different Indian Jails. He was released but arrested again and again.
“Poverty forced him to do menial jobs to feed his family,” said one of his friends.
He lamented that after serving his nation for over 20 years, he was neither befriended by any militant outfit nor any Hurriyat organization.
Sources said that people in large numbers participated in his last rites.
