Will move Bill in LA for death sentence for rape of minor: Rana

‘Rape on a girl child is most inhuman act’

Jammu, Mar 27: National Conference Provincial President and MLA Devender Singh Rana on Tuesday said that he will move a Private Member’s Bill in the Legislative Assembly for death sentence to brutes committing rape of minors.
“Rape on a girl child is most inhuman act”, Rana said while interacting with a delegation of National Conference workers from Kathua here this afternoon.
The Provincial President lamented the attempts of communalizing and politicizing crimes, saying this speaks of the lowest depths the politics has touched.
He said the divisive policies being pursued by the BJP and the PDP has brought Jammu and Kashmir to a passé. While Kashmir is boiling, Jammu is seething, Ladakh too is becoming restive. The coalition, he said, has failed on all fronts and the promises made are now haunting the government, which is just by name and invisible on ground zero. He said conspiracies are being hatched under the garb of illegal immigrants to harass the people, living in harmony for centuries. “This is unacceptable”, he said, adding that National Conference will continue to fight for isolating the elements dividing society in the name of region, religion or caste.
In a scathing attack on the BJP, the Provincial President asked about the promises made to people living along International Border and Line of Control, who continue to live under perpetual threat and offering sacrifices.
He appealed people to maintain communal harmony and hoped that political parties would rise above petty political considerations and ensure that the “bouquet of Jammu and Kashmir, comprising three regions of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir” remains intact.
He said the coalition partners are focusing on separate communities and preparing them to come eyeball to eyeball against each other.
Rana referred to the disenchantment among the people of the three regions and pointed towards the protests in parts of Rajouri over the issue of district status the issues pertaining to posting of Additional Deputy Commissioners. He said the government has lost sense of proportion as a result of which people are forced to take to streets.
Speaking on the occasion, State Vice President and former MLC Th Kashmira Singh highlighted the crucial role of National Conference cadre in the fast changing political scenario in State and said a decisive battle is needed to be fought against divisive forces, who have taken central stage by exploiting regional and religious sentiments to further their myopic and nefarious agenda.
Th Kashmira Singh said that challenges faced to Jammu and Kashmir are numerous, especially in the wake of policies being adopted by the coalition government, and these can be met by maintaining unity and preserving the age-old communal amity.
The delegation from Kathua comprised Romy Khajuria, Yashpal Block Secretary, Raj Kumar, Satpal Sharma, Pyar Singh, Birbal, Sagar Chand, Daljeet, Gulzar Singh, Raj Kumar, Darshan Kumar, Khajan Chand, Mukesh Kumar, Dr jagdev Chand and others.

Rachpal Singh, Provincial Secretary and former MLC Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial President Women Wing Satwant Kour Dogra, District President Urban, Dhramveer Singh Jamwal besides Dilshad Begum, Som Raj and others.
Later Rana visited the Nagrota Assembly Constituency and initiated started macadmization of roads from National Highway to Dingyali in Sidhra, and road from Bajalta to Hanuman Mandir at Bain Bajalta He also inspected various works being undertaken in Khanpur Panchayat.
At Khanpur, a prominent PDP leader Nazir Ahmed joined the National Conference.
Rana said National Conference has all along provided a huge space to public spirited political activists, which is why the State’s largest mass movement launched by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah is being ultimate political destination for them.
He exuded confidence that with the joining of dedicated people, National Conference will be further strengthened at the grass roots level. (KNS)
