‘Kashmir has been turned into a military, police state’

Srinagar, April 02: Expressing serious concern over the painful and deteriorating situation in Kashmir, the Awami Action Committee(AAC) Monday said that under a well thought out plan, Kashmir’s young lot is subjected to genocide while as Kashmir has been turned into a military and police state.
In a statement issued to KNS, the AAC termed the killing of 17 people and inflicting bullet and pellet injuries to over 200 in South Kashmir in the force’s action an act of war crime which deserves strong condemnation.
The AAC paid rich tribute to all the martyrs killed in South Kashmir on Sunday and prayed for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The AAC said that unbridled powers given to the forces by the draconian AFSPA, Kashmir’s young boys are being selectively killed whenever forces wish. It said time and venue for the bloodbath is also selected by the forces themselves as they know that no one is going to make them accountable, let alone punish them.
The AAC said that killing of innocent civilians can’t be tolerated for long and that the Kashmir dispute was a political and human issue which needs to be resolved by implementing the UN resolutions or through tripartite talks and that resolution has to be acceptable to the people of Kashmir, who are the primary party to the dispute.
The AAC said that as long as Kashmir dispute continues to linger on, killings of innocents, human rights violations and the tension between the two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan won’t go away.
The AAC also paid rich tributes to the frontline freedom fights, Ishfaq Majeed Wani and Dr.Abdul Ahad Guro on their martyrdom anniversaries stating that martyr’s have sacrificed their lives for a great and sacred cause and it’s the duty of people and the leadership to take the mission towards logical end.
Meanwhile, the AAC strongly condemned the house detention of its patron and APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence yet again terming it as a political vendetta. It also denounced converting entire South Kashmir into a military garrison and imposing strict curbs in downtown stating that these repressive measures can’t break the resolve of people or the leadership as both are committed to take the ongoing freedom movement towards its logical conclusion.
