Brisbane, April 25: Yaqeen Ul Haq Sikanadar, a Kashmir based youth in a significant development addressed a Commonwealth Conference titled “Sustainable Peace and Development in a Polarising World: Perspectives and Contributions from the Commonwealth of Nations.” The conference was held on 9 – 11 April 2018 at Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia.
Yaqeen Ul Haq Ahmad Sikander, the Founder & Director of Inspire ME Global, a non-profit based in Srinagar that works for Youth Empowerment was invited to speak on the event as a Panelist amongst many other eminent scholars and activists from all over the globe.
Yaqeen Ul Haq Ahmad Sikander is an ACWAY (A Common Word Among the Youth) fellow which is a project that promotes peace and inter-faith dialogue across the globe. Representing ACWAY at the commonwealth conference, Mr Yaqeen spoke about the importance of interfaith dialogue and peace among the youth and highlighted the role of ACWAY which so far has delivered more than 150 projects on ground at grass rootlevels in dozens of countries. He also showcased his innovative project called ‘Campeace’ that was developed in collaboration with ACWAY and promoted by Inspire ME Global to impart peace education amongst the youth while doing outdoor camps.
The multi-faith centre at Griffith University hosted the event. Dr Brian Adams, the director of the institute emphasized the role of Commonwealth nations in promoting peace and sustainable development.
The conference discussed the role of the Commonwealth of Nations in these current changing times and explored the normative and practical leadership roles of faith communities, universities, and the Commonwealth of Nations itself. The conference assembled experts from around the Commonwealth as part of the activities surrounding the Commonwealth Games on the Australian Gold Coast in April 2018.
Pertinently, Yaqeen is also listed as one of the youngest writers of the world who published his first book “The True Purpose of Life” when he was just 17 and now is working on other creative projects besides activism and peace educator. (KNB)
