Poonch, April 10: A “stunt doing” tractor hit and injured a person and his five-year-old nephew in Mendhar area of Poonch district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching GNS said the tractor was on the way to Mendhar from Behra when it hit the duo at Jaba near Mendhar bus stand.

The victim Showkat Ahmad, who is an AEE, and his nephew Imran Qadeer were on road outside their house when the tractor hit them, reports said.

After the mishap, the family members of the injured intercepted the tractor driver and questioned him for “rash driving and doing stunts” in the area.

“However, the driver and the people accompanying him beat us to pulp and fled from the spot,” the family told GNS.

Those injured due to beating have been identified as Fareed Ahmad, who has suffered head injuries, and Mehmood Ahmad, reports said. Both were hospitalized at SDH Mendhar. While Mehmood was discharged after given first aid, Fareed was referred to JMC Jammu for specialized treatment.

In the meantime, the locals of the area staged a protest demonstration blocked the Jaba-Behra road demanding action against the tractor driver.

SHO Mendhar, Mohammad Amin told GNS that the tractor has been seized and a hunt has been launched to nab the driver and other men involved in the beating.

The official identified the driver as Zafar Iqbal son of Ghulam Ahmad of Behra Mendhar.

“So far, the driver and those accompanying him are absconding. A team has been deputed to the area to arrest them,” he said.

A case under FIR No. 149/2018 under section 279 and 337 RPC has been registered and further investigations have been taken up, SHO added. (GNS)
