Srinagar, May 08: Hours after theChief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti called All Party Meeting in view of the prevailing situation in the Valley; the opposition mainstream political parties and leaders Tuesday said that they will attend the meeting and will put forth the demands of people.
However, the opposition National Conference (NC) said that they will decide to participate in the meeting till late evening.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), NC General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar said that the party has received the invitation in this regard but they are yet to decide its participation in the meeting. “We have received the invitation and will decide to participate in the meeting till late evening,” he said.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), chief, G A Mir said that the party instead of boycotting the meeting will participate in it and will put forth the demands of people.
“Yes, we will participate in the meeting and will put forth the demands of people besides raising issue of current prevailing situation,” he said, adding that the party will play its role for the peace in the Valley.
He said that the government is duty bound to control the situation in the Valley.
CPI (M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said that they will also participate in the meeting but the recommendations being put forth during such meetings are not being implemented.
“We have already said that it is not only law and order or cross border issue, this is essentially a political anger and BJP leadership should take other parties on board and should take steps to resolve the issue,” he said.
He said that a committee comprising parliament members should be constituted and be given mandate to talk to resolve the issues.
“I suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take the step forward and should talk with Pakistan,” he said, adding that the issues in Kashmir will affect the country if not resolved.
He said that All Party Delegation headed by Chief Minister should meet PM and tell him that this issue can’t be resolved with weapons but there is a need to accept the mistakes.
Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib, Hakim Muhammad Yaseen said that he has received the invitation and will attend the meeting, slated to be held on Wednesday.
“We will express our views regarding the prevailing situation and will urge the government to resolve the issues,” he said, adding that various issues will be raised including the use of force and rise in militancy.
However, he said that such meetings have been convened in the past as well. “The meeting called by Chief Minister should be meaningful and the recommendations that will be put forth should be implemented otherwise the convening a meeting will be a futile exercise,” he said.
Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) president and former minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir said that he is out of country but the meeting called by Chief Minister will be attended by the party leaders.
“General Secretary Nazir Ahmad Dialgami, youth president Muzaffar Reshi and District organizer Imtiyaz Sofi will participate in the meeting on behalf of me,” he said.
Mir said that use of force cannot resolve the issue and there is a need to resolve the issue politically. “We will raise various issues in the meeting and will pitch for the release of Hurriyat leaders who were arrested by NIA,” he said, adding that they will demand ceasefire. (KNS)
